Default 4.6 in '70 Torino GT

Been toying the Idea of getting my '70 torino GT running with a 4.6 2v NPI motor and th400 tranny.

I think it would be pretty cool going EFI in an old school.

The 4.6 I pulled out of my truck, 70,000 on the clock. I've sprayed everything and getting ready to clean it up.

Everythings been ported and gasket matched, and I plan on throwing a 75 shot on it to wake it up some.

The car thats in question

Seems to me that you will need at the bare minimum a PI swap and maybe a set of cams. The NPI really isn't that great and I doubt it's going to be that quick in a car that size. I love the idea, just get some more HP out of it.

Agreed ^^^^. Thats alot of car to be moving with a non-pi 4.6L. Squeeze some more ponies out of it and it would be a pretty cool and unique build though.

I couldn't agree more with you guys...

I know torques needed to move these pigs, my little 429 cj

This whole builds going to be a budget build and planning on keeping it under $1,000.

Hope this doesn't turn you off of the build but it's going to be 4x4

I'm going to use, out of this pic
Front and rear dana 60 with 5.38 gears, rear spool cromoshafts and the fronts stock open carrier.

front superlift 12" springs
rear superlift 10" springs

37" tsl on stock rims until I can get some 40-44" tires

This same drivetrain was in my '97 f150 on 49's and i could white smoke them on pavement, thats weighing in at 8,500lbs but in deep stuff you could see where it was lacking.

This car I imaging I can get it to weigh in at 5,500-6,500lbs with smaller tires (lower gear) so I don't see the NPI 4.6 sucking plus I have some giggle juice if it's needed

Probably set it up with the 4r70 and BW4404 transfercase first. Stock motor I pulled out of the truck to replace with the 5.4 s/c built longblock.

If your wonder why I posted here, after I get this going in the next 6 months to year I'm going to be trying to make up my mind if I want to go with when I finally build a heart for her?

*4.6 aluminum block perferibly a teksid build
* DOHC with termi setup on around 18#
* Nitrous because I love it, depending on price stroker?

~600hp~

*******Big benifit weight******

Or

* 460, yuck, iron block 800lbs ughhh
* 8.71, nitrous, stroker

~1,200hp~

According to wikipedia, the car weighs 3700 pounds. Thats with a huge 429 under the hood that probably weighs 700-800 pounds. The NPI 4.6 weighs a good couple hundred less. So if wiki is true, it shouldn't be that much heavier then a regular SN95. But I doubt wiki is true haha.

Lol, I feel like we've been had! It should at the very least be fun, and interesting. I look forward to seeing it finished.

I'd say 4-4,500lbs I haven't ever weighed the Torino

Lol sorry, not what I was going for...

For going to the track and thinking I'm fast I take out the farm truck.

I also have these wheels too, American Racing 20x10's I ended up changing axles on Cant Quit so I had to get some different wheels and I never used these.

those cars are not as heavy as ppl would think they would be but 3700++lbs seems to be right. http://www.oldride.com/library/1970_ford_torino.html

http://www.torinocobra.com/specs.htm
so they are not too much heavier than the mn12 tbird/cougar and they are close to the same weight of the mn12 platform mark viii.

Bc I had a 74 gran torin elite that thing seemed huge but it was 3500+ lbs so it wasnt as heavy as it looked

But on the other hand the 78 lincoln mark v diamond jubilee i had with the 460 motor was right at 5000lbs and literally 20ft long.
but the torino, cougar, and tbird of the 70 isnt nearly that heavy. the 4.6 should get it moving no prob.

I own a 92 Super coupe with a few bolt ons and a pulley. Guarantee that I am putting out more HP and torque than an NPI and my SC is still pretty slow.
