Default 1996 Mustang gt revving up while idling...

So when i start my car in the morning i find it revs up to about 1500 rpms and then comes back down and it keeps doing this until i start going, while i bring the car to a stop it idles weird and it feels like its trying to rev up. While im driving everything is normal. It just seems to idle weird in the morning. I'm attributing to the cold, but im not sure if it could be something else..any ideas?

Sounds like the IAC valve to me. Either clean it or replace it.

Blow some air through it... but your best bet is to replace it... ford says in the manuals that you cant clean this part and it should be replaced.. they are pretty much right unless you get lucky because its only a temporary fix for most mustangs. its called hanging rpm's and it happens a lot to mustangs and most of the time its the IAC vavle or a air leak somewhere.

I'm having sort of the same problem with my 98 stang. It idles at a stop sign/caution light at around 1200/1500 rpms. Until i press hard on the brakes, and then it goes back down to 700-800 rpms.

I have had luck spraying carb cleaner up in them, then blowing air through. Not going to hurt the car, just annoying as hell. In an automatic it can be dangerous as the car pulls on it's own. In a stick, not so much.
