He did say 70000 Km, not miles. That is only 45k miles or so. With that mileage, I would not be concerned about rear diff fluid, manual trans fluid or coolant.

The problem I have with all of this is fluids have to be changed every 3-5 years regardless of the mileage.

I have been working on cars for a LONG time and I have never heard that before. If the car only had 70k km on it, the only fluid I would worry about having been changed is the oil.

Proper maintenance (which very few actually do) would be to change engine coolant and brake fluid every 3-5 years with an absolute disregard of mileage.

Coolant does breakdown over time, in fact most manufacturers specify a shelf life (I.e. new ant-freeze sitting on a shelf in its original container) of 5-7 years. Brake fluid is hygroscopic (it absorbs water) and will deteriorate over time even in a "sealed", but vented), system.

For the other fluids, all manufacturer's specify engine oil changes in terms of x miles/x months "whichever comes first". For our Mustangs Ford says 5,000 miles/6 months as the absolute maximum in normal service and 3,000/3 months for special service.

You don't see time specific tranny and differential recommendations as commonly, but if you dig you can find them. Like Average Joe, 3 to 5 years is what I would consider proper maintenance as well...
