Need help please ran into coolant problem with my car
I have a 98 gt 4.6L and was casually driving down the road and white smoke starting pouring out of the side of the hood. I immedietely pulled over, turned the car off and popped the hood. Immedietely I noticed that the smoke was coming from the Engine Coolant cap ontop of the tank right above the radiator. There was antifreeze im assuming (green fluid) spraying from that cap. Then it proceeded the drain all of the liquid all over the road which I was unable to see any hoses that it was specifically coming from. Im no mechanic by any means but I have a feeling it is one of three things. 1) It may just need a new cap because it exceeded 16 PSI. 2) It needs a new temp gauge.(I believe that is located at the end of the large black tube running from my radiator to the engine underneath that metal piece) 3) Possible a water pump. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you everyone.

Seems like it overheated and you had a boilover. Check the cap, make sure its in good condition, no tears or rips in the seal etc. Verify that the water pump and thermostat are functioning properly, check for endplay on the water pump shaft. If you can i would highly recommend doing a pressure teat on the system, or have a shop do it for you. Im leaning toward thermostat or water pump on this one though.
