Unhappy PLEASE HELP NEW MUSTANG OWNER!

Hello guys how are you guys.

My name is Jeff, I am from Texas and I purchased my first mustang several months ago. It was and still is a beauty 2002 Mustang GT. I got it for a steal... it had 133k miles but was running great. Only drawback was its an auto but it didn't bother me.

The differential was leaking like crazy it had oil sludge all around the rear axle. I cleaned it up. Opened it up put new diff fluid and sealed it with silicone.

About 3 months after I bought it I took it to the local race track to test it out. I always drive the car normally by the way. So I run it and it runs great and after the first run I let off at the end of the quarter mile and my car shuts off.

Now when I start the car I get a metal clanking sound at startup for a few seconds and then nothing. Car sounds perfect at idle no knocking. However when I drive in gear I hear a weird knocking sound coming from the transmission, engine area. Also when I deacelerate I hear the clanking sound at start up. Also when the car is idle and im not giving gas my oil sensor goes down to empty. When I give it gas it goes back up.

I changed the valve covers because one side was already goind bad when I bought it. There was no metal shavings in the last oil change I did yesterday.

I'm hoping its a cracked flex-plate and a sensor for the oil gauge. If not I'm thinking its the oil pump and I have a spun bearing. Either way my buddy owns a shop and owes me like $4500 so the rebuild is there if needed. I would just rather it not come to that. What do you all think it sounds like??

I appreciate any input.

No way to tell without hearing it. Can you post up a video of it? You say your buddy owns a shop. Let him listen to it.

I can't see the oil pressure gauge and the knock appearing at the exact same time and not be related. The oil pressure gauge is an idiot light with a needle, it's just a switch, less than 2PSI = no pressure, more than 2PSI = normal. My guess, you spun a a rod bearing big time.

He thinks its a spun bearing or something to do with the timing chain. He told me to baby it around the holidays since I just gave my son my 03' Ford F150. So no other car for me to use other than the stang.

After the new years taking it for a rebuild.

Now since im doing a rebuild should I stroke it out to 302?

Either way ill have a cherry brand new motor ready to slap on a supercharger for some fun.

I will have some videos later.

Videos will help as the 4.6L is known for timing chain slap, which is easy to fix. I wouldn't stroke it, just go with a nice forged kit and some good heads.
