Default Car won't start.

First of all, I know for a fact that the issue is not the battery. I came home from vacation last week, went to start my car and it made a loud thud and wouldn't turn over. My friend and I ran a test wire from the battery to the starter itself and the car started right up. I've checked all the fuses that I could find concerning the ignition and starter according to the Owner's Manual but so far no luck. I really would like to be able to drive a fast car again, my mom's Honda just doesn't do it for me...
Basically I just wondered if anyone has had this problem or knows a fuse or wire connection that I may have overlooked or possibly something more serious (hopefully not).
Thanks in advance.

  • Check the battery terminal connectors, make sure they are clean and tight;

  • Just to be sure it is NOT the battery, check the voltage across the negative and positive battery connectors, NOT the battery posts, while cranking (or trying to crank) the engine--it should be 10.5V or better, if not the battery connections are bad, or the battery itself is bad; have it load tested at an auto-electric shop--NOT a FLAPS--they will also be able to test/verify the generator's operation;

    If the voltage does not change at all, or changes just a small bit (<0.25V) then the starter relay is not being activated--this could be the relay itself or an ignition switch issue. The relay is located in the Battery Junction Box under the hood, you should be able to here it click when the key is turned to START--if it does not then it is defective or not getting power.

Also check the primary ground wire that runs from the battery to the block, just aft of the oil filter adapter--it is not uncommon for it to be loose or corroded...

So I've ruled out the battery for certain now so it would appear that the relay isn't getting power for some reason so I'll have to look into that and the ignition switch now. Thanks again for the help!
