Default Working with timing chain and I need help.

So my friend that works at a ford dealership is helping me change it and we found out that the tensioners were so badly worn out that the timing chain was eating the dowel pin where the tensioner goes in. The chain ate over half of the dowel pin and he said that it was pretty bad and he didn't know what to do. So he called I think he said his manager and told him about that and the manager said to keep going. I ask him if the pin can be replaced and he said no, that it was part of the block. We stopped and called it a day. My question is should we still keep going in fixing the car or just get a new motor? is the dowel pin really part of the block or it can be taken out? please help because I'm in a deep hole right now and I don't know what to do. Another thing is that I dont have the money to get another motor so it will sit there for months until I get the money. Thanks for reading and hopefully ya can help.

If the car is the '05 in your description, you would probably get much better help in the 2005-2012 section.

Our dowel pins can either be pressed in or threaded, and either way removable. Could be different on the '05 though.

I'm sorry about that. It's a 2002 Mustang GT.

The lines go straight to the dowel pins.

Those are replaceable and yes, they need replacing. You don't want to screw with the timing system on these cars.
