Default dohc timing questions..

Put a 4.6l dohc out of a 93 mark viii in last year, never installed the cobra cams. Well i have it apart now with cobra cams in hand and am in the process of taking the intake cams out of the mark motor. When i went to remove the mark viii cams, I found they were not held in place by key ways, the pressure from the bolt and washer held the cam gear in place. Does this sound correct to anyone? Like a dumb@$$ i didnt mark the cam position so can't install em back in place even if i wanted to.

Basically when I go to install my cobra cams and when im degreeing everything, will I be using any type of keys or is it ok to just let the bolt and washers from the cam hold the gears in place?

Also does anyone have a link to a good guide on how to degree the 96-98 cobra cams to get that extra 10hp out of em

I wish I could help... I know what you are talking about though - I helped a mechanic friend of mine replace my timing chains, gears and guides on my 4.6 DOHC. Was darn glad we locked the valvetrain in place first, I can tell you that! I have no idea how the cam gears stay in place when there is no key way... But we tightened the heck out of them!
