longtube install question.

longtube install question.
Finally bought some LT's (chrome macs from AM) this month and hope to be putting them in soon. So my question is, would it be easier to install them when i have my trans out for a rebuild? My thought on this was when trans was out to unbolt motor mounts and raise engine up to gain clearance for install from the bottom . Am i wrong on my thinking or would this work? BTW i have an auto.
Thanks
Thanks

I, THINK, you would have problems getting the trans back on with LT's installed. It might be possible, but I think the way people do it is they drop the K member with the engine supported and put them on through the bottom? Someone will correct me. Good luck with the install!

^+1, depending on which particular brand/model LTs either one or both have to come off to pull the transmission.
Also, unless evenly supported from underneath or hanging from a hoist/chain fall, the engine will fall on your head if you remove the motor mounts with tranny out.
The engine/transmission assembly only mounts to the chassis in 3 places, the motor mounts and the transmission cross-member. With the tranny out the rear of the engine drops and the heads/cam covers lean toward/touch the firewall--the motor mounts being the only thing holding it in...

If i have to drop the kmember then may as well put a new one in while im there.

Haha, I said the "think" part with emphasis because I don't have LT's but I've dropped my trans, mid pipe, and taken the engine out. (counts for something right?)
Never hurts to ask. Sometimes we all learn from others questions.
