What is everyones opinions 94-95 vs 96-98. Pros and cons? I have found a nice 95 with gt40 heads cam exhaust etc.... but whatever i get will be my daily driver so I dont want something that sucks down the gas. I really like the 4.6l but I dont want something slower than what I had. How much faster is the new edge vs the sn95 stock for stock?

Sorry to hear that. Stories like this are why my wife won't be driving my GT.

The new edge GT's had a 35 to 45 horsepower edge over the 94-98 GT's and I don't think there was a huge difference in torque either, again with the newer style having a small edge.

Older GT's like the 94-98 do possibly have a longer pinion gear like a 2.73 or 3.08 compared to the 3.27's on the 99-04 GT's, so with those two combined you will notice a seat of the pants difference between stock vehicles.

Would it be a plus to swap rear ends from my 04? Would the whole axle just bolt up or are they different in the new edge?

If you don't have any insurance on it, then I would try to part out anything of value, then scrap it. If the engine is/was running, it's worth something as a rebuildable core. Yes, you could use the heads and intake as a PI swap on a 96-98. As for me, I'd avoid 94-95's. Worse gas mileage, more limited available parts, etc. If you wanted a 5.0, I'd get a fox.

Blasphemy! I get damn near 20MPG out of my Cobra (3.08 gears). Parts are limited? I've never had any problems getting any parts for mine. The 302 has a huge aftermarket, and if you need body/interior stuff 50resto, Ebay, Craigslist, are all your friends. It's an SN95 platform with a Fox body heart!

Most of the cars I am looking at are bolt on 5.0's or stock 4.6's. I am planning on running the 1/4 mile this spring but it will also be my dd. The main thing I want is something faster than my bro-in-laws 350z. My 04 was just a tad faster than his car. What times will a bolt on 5.0 94-95 run compared to 96-98 4.6? My wife is ok just a little bumped up. I will post some links of the cars I am looking at.

Glad your wife is ok!

the 94-98's are honestly dogs in stock form. a Bolt on car will probably net high-mid 14's.
best performance mods are follows...

94-95, H/C/I.

96-98 , F/I
