Opinions on transmission work
So, I took the bellhousing off of my t45 to install a new throw out bearing retainer, and some wise guy put it in forth while I had my back turned, and it made a clang and now it's stuck in 4th.
So I called a local AAMCO that I trust and they said it could be cheap, or it could be as much as 850 for a re-man...not sure what kind of a warrenty that comes with Or I can take it to a place that does nothing but remanufacture standard transmissions and do a swap for $900 that is warrentied for 1 year with unlimited miles as long as it has fluid and isn't abused. I'm leaning more towards option 2 due to the fact that they have been doing this for 20 years, and the owner answered all of my questions honestly and let me pick his brain for about 35 minutes over the phone. What do you guys think? |
I think they both sound to high. The tranny is out of the car right?
All they do to reman a tranny is replace bearings and syncros and some seals. Shop around. I bet your problem is a simple fix. |
Found a used tranny with 80K for 600$
|
Probably wouldn't go used. Find someone to build it right. Better in the long run

I think that's awesome. Makes me feel layered. Like some sort of epic lasagna

Is it normal to damage the tranny if the shifter is moved with the bellhousing off?
If it does need a rebuild, it's allready half apart. Do it yourself. |
have you tried pulling the shifter to make sure nothing in there got jammed? could be a simple fix.
