I have a 2000 Mustang GT with a loose timing chain on the passenger side. I replaced the chain and tensioner, but as I rotated I noticed the chain would get tight as it should be and then get loose again then tight and so on. What could cause this or is it suppose to do that? I wouldn't think its suppose to.

The tensioners are hydraulically loaded by the engine's oil pressure, in addition to the spring--without the engine running they do allow a bit more slack...
