Default P.I. Heads and Intake Manifold Ford Lightning to Mustang GT

Hello all,

I am new to these forums, and I have just recently acquired a 96 Mustang GT in a trade for a 91 Honda CRX.

I am looking to get more power from the 4.6, so I posted a wanted ad on craigslist. I got a response for some heads from a 2000 Lightning for $200. I know the lightning had a 5.4L, and my car is a 4.6. Will these heads fit my 4.6? I imagine they would because the motor they are from are also 2V, but it cannot hurt to be sure. Also is $200 a good price for these, or should I offer him $150ish? I do not think this deal includes the intake manifold.

Thanks!

no, those are windsor heads, you need to find 01+ heads since those are romeo heads, just like your motor...

keep looking around, you can usually find them on ebay pretty cheap too

when it comes to an intake, make sure you get one with the aluminum water crossover in the front, NOT the plastic one, youll have nothing but issues...

Yes I know about the plastic intake manis.. we had to change the one that is on my 96 GT with another all plastic one to get it home from a 30mi trip due to the original having a crack in it.

So you're saying I need 2001+ heads and intake mani from a Mustang GT ONLY, correct?

I had an offer for an engine and trans out of a 99 police interceptor for only 200..should I just pass on this and keep looking for the 01+ GT heads and mani?

Thank you for clearing up the confusion!

anything with a set of 01+ PI heads will work, and other than trucks, you can use any of the 01+ intake manifolds, just swap the TB elbow around on a crown vic/etc manifold

FWIW i got my heads and manifold off a Lincoln Town Car...

Windsor heads wont work with your timing cover or valve covers and its just a PITA...

I ended up picking up a PI intake from an 04 Mustang GT with 45,000 miles. I am going to try to snag the heads as well from the same car.

I ended up finding this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-4-6-PI-...#ht_500wt_1154

all aluminum Ford PI intake? Can someone give me more info on this? I imagine it would give better gains over the plastic PI intake (and never crack)?

wouldnt bother, plastic is a better choice since it wont retain heat like metal, and the only part prone to cracking is the water crossover on the front which is aluminum on yours anyways...

he already has romeo stuff 96-98, 01-04...

windsor motors need a different timing cover IIRC...

the front covers are different in the the front accessories but i beleive the head bolt pattern to the front cover is the same. seems i seen a few ppl use the windsor covers for the 3 bolt tensionors.
