Default clutch question

i just noticed today that when i push my clutch pedal in all the way, i can hear the clutch still spinning. its like a smooth surface rub sound (sorry only way i can describe it). also i noticed lately that sometimes i have to use a little more effort to shift into each gear. but when i get it into gear, it does not slip out. could this mean that i need to adjust my clutch cable, or that the cable has stretched? i already have an aftermarket quadrant and cable. much help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Possible sign that the clutch cable is fixing to break.

There should be 1" to 1-1/4" free play in the pedal. Press on it with your hand and observe the distance it travels before you feel the TOB start to depress the clutch spring fingers--if not adjust the cable.

The clutch pedal/quadrant and release lever have an overall mechanical advantage of 10:1 or so, making 1" to 1-1/4" free play at the pedal equal 0.100" to 0.125" clearance between the TOB and the clutch spring fingers--I.e. "right on the money"...
