Default for those who've done cams..

If you installed the cams with the heads still on a 4v, how did you install the rocker arms? The instructions on timing the cams require you have the rockers out while tightening up the cam bolts and such, but never actually say how to install the rockers except at the end of the installation instructions "Install rocker arms". I realize there is a $140 tool to do this, but has anyone just left the rockers in while installing the cams? There is a crank holding tool and camshaft holding tool (which i have both of) so I dont see why i need to leave the rockers out. Can i just leave them in and install everything instead of leaving them out? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the input but that does not really answer my question. the 2v is a different beast than the 4v especially when it comes to timing.

I wonder if you put a piece of felt between the screwdriver and the cam lobe if it would help prevent scratches?

cams are made out of SADI material, trust me youre not going to scratch it with anything less than a diamond or carbide inserts on a lathe...

ah the joys of working in a machine shop lol

oh and despite what the video says, as long as the cam is on the base circle for that particular piston you can install the rockers, that whole 9 o'clock thing is for installing cams with the rockers still in, which SHOULDNT be done since its hard/impossible to get and accurate tq reading. the cam caps only need 71-106 in/lb and its VERY easy to strip the threads if you over-tighten...

i did get an answer from NA SVT about the cams. He told me as long as the cams are held in place the with d-slot cam holders and the cam holders that bolt onto the center of the cams, and you will need the crank holding tool, then you should be fine installing the cams with the rocker arms installed. You just dont want the crank or cams turning. simple as that.
