Default Strange alarm behavior on 2001 GT ... description inside

Hi group. Was wondering if anyone could help me with my recent problem.

Just noticed a couple of days ago.
1. When I shut off the car, and leave the key in ignition, the internal
chime keeps going off. Same one as if the lights are still on when you
leave the car... When i take the key out, it stops.
2. When I close it with my remote, instead of one confirmation horn sound, i get two short ones, as if the door was ajar (all are closed of course).

I have no idea what can be causing this.

Perhaps not related, but i noticed the same internal chime (1) in my mom's 1998 Mercury Mistique. I am now curious if this is a ford issue?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Mike

the lil chime is so you wont forget to grab your keys and lock them in. mine does it to kinda of the same concept as if you leave your lights on to remind you to do something before you get out.

Thanks for your reply... no, it's not it - never did it before. Only when you open the door with keys still in, not while you are still inside and the door is closed. Besides it doesnt explain the double beep when i lock it...

it sounds like your car thinks your door is still open when it's not. you should figure out what kind of mechanism they use to sense whether the door is open or not and fix that.

You can figure out exactly which door it is by starting the car, then open one of the doors, if it makes a long beep when you open it while the car is running, you will know the sensor on that door is fine. I'm willing to bet it's the driver's side door that has a bad sensor/loose connection because I'm positive thats the door you open/close most often.

Take off the door panel from the inside and check for any loose connections, it could very well be that there was a plug or something that came unhooked when you closed the door one day.

As it's already been said, the chime going off with the key in the ignition is normal, if you had a door open that is, and the two horn beeps instead of one when you lock it with the remote is also to remind you that a door isn't fully latched.
