Just thinking, engine swap

Just thinking, engine swap
Well my 96 is getting up in miles and I was wonderring about all tthe stuff I would want to do to it.
PI Heads, Supercharger, etc.
I was wonderring if it would just be more coasteffective and smarter to try and find a 01 (or waht ever year) Cobra engine. Aa used engine and trans and I think I would have a new car for many more years. At lease I think it would be chaeper than starting over with a new car, plus i like my car.
Thoughts?

RE: Just thinking, engine swap
I would not buy an 01 Cobra engine. The pistons are not forged on that one. 03-04 Cobra motors are forged internals but I don't think you can just drop one in a GT without doing a bunch of other stuff. I would consider buying ProMod or a stroker from DSS Racing or Coast HP. The promod is a good bargain from DSS for $2800 except the crank is nodular (cast) but strong enough. Otherwise it would cost at least 3500 for a completely forged internal short blk. I wish I had the time to get one in myself. Someday I will.

I looked at those sites, thanks. That looks like alot of work, it is just the block right?
I was thinking of looking for a crashed cobra or something that i could just take out and plop into my car. I new at this stuff and might be totally off base?

RE: Just thinking, engine swap
hey my engine swap is almost done, i had an 01 4.6 s281 w/ sc. i got it for 3200$ shipped, had 17k miles on it supposedly (looks about right) i figured 3 grand for a sc, a grand for a pi swap, a grand for a rebuild/clutch replacement, and almost a month of down time was my other option to an engine swap, and i hear sc a pi swap motor is tricky with the compression. i reccomend the engine swap, just make sure you have everything you need before hand and definetly replace the clutch and throwout bering. over all with all the little parts my swap is costing me 5 grand roughly, (new clutch intercooler, million other little things) even if i went out and bought a cobra instead i figure i would lose a couple grand off selling my gt, and then the cobra wouldnt be half as powerful as this new engine. for cost effectiveness id get a 99+ 2v and have the tranny rebuilt, clutch replaced. cobra motors are more expensive and you would need a new tranny and ecu. i think you could get away with a 99+ 2v swap for just under 3 grand with new clutch kit. that would give you close to the same hp of a pi swap, plus it would be like a brand new engine, and sc ing it would work out better. good luck either way you go, do your research!
