Default 2nd gear lag on my 1999 GT

So sometimes when im punching it and hit 2nd gear, it lags, like ive lost a lot of power ( dash shows that im spinning out but im not) then regains power slowly and then works fine for all other gears. This is just somthing that happens mainly if I have just recently turned, so I turn then punch it and then lag.

What could be the problem?

Thanks,

Josh

I didn't want to make another thread just yet, just incase somewhere who looks here might know as well, but...

Sometimes when im pressing on the gas normally in a higher gear (4th and 5th) I get vibration until i've gained a little bit more speed.

Any thoughts or ideas on that?

Thanks again.

For your first post, souinds like traction control (assuming it's equiped) is kicking in.

And for the second, you're probably just lugging it.

Solution: drive sane or turn off traction control and don't lug it.

Sounds like your clutch is slipping

Thank you for your input!

My mechanic that I took my Stang to said that the traction control seems to always be running. Now I am not sure if he means you can't turn it off, or if its like my 2012 fusion, its always on unless you hit traction control then it turns off. Is it the same for my Mustang?

Also forgive me, what do you mean by lugging?

Thanks,

Josh

Does the T/C light(dash) come on? It's green. And by lugging it he is saying you are too low in rpm. You need to be above 3500 in each gear. Shift at red line.

Mineral,

No the T/C light doesn't come on.

I'm still sticking with my clutch suggestion. No way in hell it's the TC form your description. TC cuts rpm not let it fly like doing a burnout.

I thought by you saying that the dash was telling you that you were spinning you meant the TC light was coming on.

In light of this new information I'm with oxfordgt, your clutch is more than likely slipping.

There are ways to tell if it is slipping, I just don't remember them so maybe another member could shed some light on that? I know CliffyK has some insight on this...

I'd be very interested to hear what I could do to tell if its slipping.

Thanks to all for those who gave me their input.
