supercharger belt slippage damage ?s

so i'm ready to up the boost on my vortech supercharger. going from 9lbs to 16lbs i'll be good with my current stock belt set up. but... i know the supercharger can push more and i know my motor will take it. the problems belt slippage right now and i want to know what kind of affects can belt slippage cause like, loss of boost, damage to the motor, ect...

any input would greatly help me cause i'd love to push that 20lbs out of that vortech.

You will never push 16lbs on your setup with a 6 rib. You will shred belts weekly and foul plugs alot from belt slip.

essentially when the belt slips, all it does it make it loose boost, so it won't hurt the motor, but like oxfordgt said, you will foul out plugs from the mixture getting extremely rich

I fail to see how plugs will foul out from being rich, if the belt slips that means its not gonna push the air it should be, but ultimatley that means that same lost air isn't going to make it to the mass air flow meter, so I don't see why it would be spraying extra fuel because.

Fuel is also controlled by RPM, same rpm minus the boost that is supposed to be there makes it run rich. I had belt slip problems when I had a 6 rib and you can see the A/F go super rich on the dyno graph. That is how you ID belt slip.

You can see on my old sheet I had belt slip at the end of the pull. You can see the hp get rough and the A/F go up.

so if i can't push 16lbs on a 6 rib, do i have any other options besides upgrading all my pulleys?

oxfordgt 05-02-2012 08:35 AM

Sorry man but you got to pay to play. 8 rib set up is about $800 with an O/D crank pulley and a thump r tentioner is around $300. Those are what you will need to keep belt slip at bay at 16 lbs.

If you don't want to spend that, run less boost and carry an extra belt around in the trunk.

russellthelovemuscle 05-02-2012 08:47 AM

how much boost do you think an 8 rib can uphold? and is there anything above 8 rib besides cog?

oxfordgt 05-02-2012 08:51 AM

I had belt slip at 24lbs with all the parts I listed above.

what type of blower are you running?
