I've been running an off road xpipe for about 5 years now and I've never had a stinky smell issue at all. Here in Maryland as long as it's an OBD2 car where they can just plug and play, as long as they don't get any codes they just let you go on through. You can also do as a buddy of mine did and just take a set of cats and cut the covers off and just weld them to the off road pipe and there you go it now has a cat if the guy looks.

I have owned, built, sold and races 10+ fox body stangs. All with off road pipes and was never turned off by the smell. It's not so strong that it makes you sick or needing to roll down the windows every time you drive. Go out and take a cruze in and car from the 60's or 70's. Thats a strong smell. Good luck with your decision

being in MA. the laws suck here too,but my Cobra just this year turned old enough where it doesnt get smog tested anymore. But in my opinion Id still leave my cats on for reason I stated.

PONY cant smell like chit going down the road
Your 97 doesn't get smog tested? I thought it was only 95 and below that didn't, didn't know it was a rolling age. Time to tinker with my 96 a bit I guess!

I just put an of road x pipe on my 03 with flowmaster catbacks and it sounds like a whole new animal. I have noticed the "smell" from not having cats but it isn't bad at all.

my CAT on the 240sx was a bolt on itself. I took it off and knocked all the platinum out and put it back on. Not sure it even sounded different, maybe more metallica and raspy? just just slightly. I already had 2.5 inch CatBack with a dynomax offset muffler. Also didnt notice a smell but it was a 2.4L That was the best sounding N/A 4 banger in the world. I am convinced of it

since the OEM midpipe has 6 CATS i dont think its an option to knock the platinum out but i could eb wrong. maybe some here have done just that. It has to flow SOO much better. freaking 6 Cats really?
