Thinking about buying 98 Gt. Fixable problems? Or rip off...
Hey I'm playing around with the idea of buying a car for cheap with a few problems and fixing it up. The one I'm looking at is a 98 Gt conv. 5spd in a nice red. I don't know the miles yet but it looks low (no rust/good top). He says it won't start and seems that it's not getting fuel. He also says "when wires under washer bottle are moved the relays start working." What does this mean??? I know a decent amount about engines and I have worked a lot with mustang drivetrains but not this.
He wants $3000 and it sounds like a fun project (if low miles and all turns out). I know how to change out a fuel filter and get to the reset switch, I don't know where the fuel pump is or how to replace. I don't yet know if he can hear the pump prime. Do you think it would be a small enough problem to just have fun fixing it up, driving it for a bit, and perhaps reselling it later?
Thanks a ton!

Seems to me you may be able to buy a used 96-98 GT (running) for 3 grand. May not be the best but at least it will start up and run.. Also I'm digging the 5.0! Nice ride my man!

I paid $3500 for my 97 with zero issues and a new top and windshield. The previous owner had just had a complete tune up done. That's to much money for a non-runner. It might have a lot of other issues that he isn't telling you about. Pass on it.

Thanks for the input. I have never seen an sn95 for 3 grand with no problems on Craigslist though, that's where I usually look, they're usually more like 4200, and I look a lot. The guy said it has 130k on it too so I would have probably passed anyways, Blkstanger is right that there could be more wrong with it. And Soldier GT, thanks, the 5.0's are a lot of fun, I recently sold that car and looking forward to getting a new Mustang soon.

When I bought mine they were asking $4k. I offered $3,500 and they said OK. They had a new car on order and needed to get rid of the old one. You never know the bottom line till you ask. I have never paid the asking price for any vehicle I have owned. And I have owned 37 last count. All bought used private party.
