Not sure what previous owner ran, but i changed the oil in my mustang this past weekend and now it has a tick on cold startup. used motorcraft 5w-20 and a motorcraft filter from walmart. Whats the deal here it didnt do it until after i changed the oil.

Try a heavier grade oil (10W-30/40) or don't worry about it. Mine has done that since 45k or so--I.e. the last 90k miles--some engines do, some don't...
