Default Mustang GT Gears Change

Well, The Question in simple....

I want to change my stock gears (S..tty) but i want something Street/track affordable....

I saw that Ford Racing gives the 3.73 and 4.10 gears but i saw that othe brand called Usa Standard tha offers the 3.90 gears (i guess this gears give the best of both) but don't know if they make good stuffs (don't want to crack them tryin' to run my 315/35)

What do you think about them????

Automatic or manual?

I think one of general "rules" I've seen people go by is 4.10s for automatics and 3.73s for the 5 speeds. I don't really know since I don't have gears yet, need to save up some money for that first.

I have a 5 speed 2000 GT and the first thing I did after my first 10,000 miles (warranty) was to install Ford Racing 3.73's and I never looked back! Night and day on your bottom end and take off. I lost a little on the top end...but it's far and few between, as a daily driver, that I'm hitting 100+ MPH and need that extra pull . Best bang for the buck mod available for our Modular engines...I know it's not an engine mod but it does make it feel like you just did an engine mod when you put your foot on the pedal for the first time after the install .

I have a 5spd with 4.10's and love it! Depends on what you're lookin to get out of the car, but those 3.90's should be fine as well.

My 03 GT AUTO: 4:10 gears
My 04 Mach 1 MANUAL: 4:10 gears, would have gone up to 4:30s but I am spraying her with a 125 shot...

Get gears, like eveyone said, night and day...and another thing I topped out my GT at 145 mph with 4:10 gears so it will not affect your top end to much..

A local mustang enthusiast told me when considering changing gears, stick with Ford Racing gears. He said all Ford Racing gears are machined from the same blank stock, so the thickness of the ring gear will be the same as stock, the pinion dimensions will all be the same as stock (teeth are different of course). This makes the install/swap much easier because in most cases you can re-use the factory shims...

Some food for thought...

All ford racing gears are made by motive for ford racing, so motive or ford racing is fine as they are the same.
