Default odometer breakdown

Well i finally found an odometer for my mustang but it was a V6, which only goes to 120mph and tachs out at 7. With that i thought about just switching the gears but then i realized that you can switch over the odo and trip at once. Its part of its own unit. Oh and to get it away from the Temp/fuel and battery/oil pressure those have to come out first. Then you can remove the MPH/Tach. If you get that far you'll know what I'm talking about.

Its just 3 bolts that hold it to the instrument cluster.

Then there is this connecter, it feels like its gonna break removing it but it comes off. after that your pretty much done, just do it to the other instrument cluster and put it in its place.

This is the gear that strips, odo and trip wont work if it breaks.

this is the odo gears location inside its unit. this is the good gear.

it takes about 30 min to take out and apart both instrument clusters and switch out odo and trip, and youre left with many left over extra parts. And the reason i didn't switch the gear, even though its easy to remove and install was that the ODO reads 75000 on the new one, and mine is at 110000. If it would have had more miles than mine then i would have swapped the gear.

Note that the above is only applicable to 1998 and earlier models--in 1999 the HEC, Hybrid Electronic Cluster was introduced with the digitally driven speedometer, digital odometer, etc...
