Default Headers for a 96GT with PI head swap

Hello,

I am in the process of doing the PI head and intake manifold swap to a 96GT.

I noticed my oil pan is running thin, so in order to change that I know I have to drop the K-member a bit and lift the engine to change the pan. I figure if I'm going this far, I might as well throw some headers on the car.

I know it has aftermarket exhaust on it already. I believe it runs from the manifolds to an H pipe, then it goes into some flowmasters, but I'm not exactly sure what brand.

Anyway, I'm just wondering which headers would be best for my setup, considering it is a 96GT with 04GT heads.. I want it to bolt in and fit perfect. I don't want to spend and arm and a leg on them either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is your car an auto or manual, big difference when it comes to long tubes.

it is a manual. I just want to make sure they would clear and bolt up to the 2004 heads in a 96 body. have any suggestions?

Thanks

the physical dimension of the heads are the same, it doesn't matter what heads are on it the headers will fit just the same.

Alright I will look for some decent long tube headers. What do you think about the BBKs?

That is what I was thinking. I plan to pick them up on Wednesday. I think the only other part I really need right now is an oil pan. I can't seem to find a stock one on eBay (a couple used ones, but I'm afraid they might be running thin like mine is), probably just pick one up from advance auto?

just keep in mind not all headers will allow you to pull the trans without pulling the headers, consequently making you do this job again, or half of it, every time you need to replace that clutch you burnt up on the strip, or that trans that can't hold your f-series procharger tq 10 years down the road. I went with kooks, trans drops in and out. Still not easy, but they will not fit in your "not an arm and a leg" catagory. I've called bbk and many others, and have told me they will not allow the trans to be removed without moving headers first. If you haven't done headers yet, once you have, you will see why i'm posting this.

Thanks for the info..but this is all I am planning to do for this car. I might do the gears in the future, but the clutch seems pretty good for right now. I'm not sure how long I will have the car, but probably no more than 2 seasons of summer only.
