Default Going into 4th grind once it's been warmed up

I just bought my 2003 Mustang GT two days ago. It drove fine on test drive so I pulled the trigger on buying it. The guy I bought it from said that 2nd was popping out of gear so he had 2nd gear fixed and the rest of the trans looked over by a transmission shop. All the gears seem fine, but once the car is warmed up and I've been driving it for a while it grinds going into 4th. I've read countless posts about the 2nd gear grind that is common for the T3650. Someone told me that I should buy a kit for it that costs about 1000$. Can I get away with just replacing the 4th gear synchros? Any advice would be helpful, kinda depressing since I just bought it.

It's the syncro. You could probably get away with changing it, but if I were going that far, I would do the whole transmission.

Do you happen to know an estimation of the cost for replacing the synchro or redoing the whole trans?

They vary by transmission. I got the master rebuild kit for the M5R2 that was in my t-bird for $300 and I did all of the labor.
