Default 5-speed dont like how it shifts

Hello, quite recently i bought a 2003 mustang gt convertible with only 62,250km on it. Ive noticed that when i shift into 2nd it isnt very smooth, almost as if i can feel it grab a syncro then grab the gear. What i mean is that its not one smooth motion to pull back into 2nd.

Evidently a 9 year oldcar with only 62,250km has sat a fair bit. But ive been driving it for a while and it hasnt cleaned up.

Is there and adjustment in the clutch? Or maybe flush the tranny?

This is my first ford product, so maybe this is normal. But any input would be appreciated.

I would see if it has a short throw shifter on it....that would make the shift feel how you describe it.

To check, remove the shifter ****, then pull the plastic piece holding the leather shifter boot off being careful not to rip the cigarette lighter wires.

If it is stock it will look like flimsy stamped crap, but if it is a short throw shifter it will look like it was cut from a solid hunk of metal and not stamped, or it could have a name on it.

If you're still not sure upload a picture and someone should be able to tell you quite quickly.

What I'm getting at here is that a short throw can in some cases make the car feel like the clutch isn't adjusted correctly by forcing you exert extra effort to get it into gear, and the symptoms you describe sound to me like "notchiness" as it's called...which is also normal of a short throw........

What other manual transmission vehicles have you driven?

Does it happen only during the first few shifts when cold? That is a very common issue on these trannys, but it usually dissipates as it warms up. I think there's actually a TSB on this.

It's just the transmission man. Ford transmissions are like that, you would have hated my old thunderbird super coupe. It made the mustang transmissions seem downright smooth.

Drain the transmission fluid and refill with 3.0 L (3.2 qt) of Mobil 1 ATF. It has probably never been changed and still has the factory 3.8 L fill which was proven to be too much.

Here is a TSB (04-15-6) that explains more...
