Default I have a 5th gear problem!

I know I should probably post in the introduction forums first but I'd really like to figure this out!

I have a 99 gt and I have problems with my 5th gear. while cruising it takes me two tries to get it into gear but on the second try it goes in very smoothly. If im stepping on it, it takes me quite a few tries to get it into gear. If I am at a stand still, it will go into gear just fine. Or if I go from 5th gear into 4th gear then sometimes I can **** back into 5th perfectly fine while driving.

Anyone know what this could possibly be??

Matt.

I have problems getting into 5th gear my myself, I created a thread a while back and most people told me it was my Synchros. But I'd wait until someone who knows what they are talking about come in here and give some advice !

I'm pretty sure it's your syncros not lining up in 5th.

I did a quick look on the internet and didn't find jack for syncro's, so I headed over to ebay and found these (link below)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SY-149-Syncr...#ht_2568wt_982

Are these what I need? Has anyone ever took this to a shop and had it done? How much did it cost?

A T5 is worlds different from your T45.

But the t45 in your car is getting past it's prime...could be time for a rebuild....

Would anyone know how much a shop would charge to pull the tranny out and put all of the parts in? (if I bought all the parts else where)

I would say a shop would charge around 300-500 bucks. Just go get a used t-45 instead. It would be a lot easier.

If your grinding going into 5th the syncro needs to be replaced cause its shot.
If it just won't go in. The syncro needs to be re aligned.

It's not even worth it to just replace 1 syncro. The 300-500 is just installation that's not including part you don't know about that may be broke in the trans, trans fluid, seals, just a lot of stuff you may not think about.

Good luck finding a shop that will put your parts in a transmission that you want rebuilt...and if they do the work they more than likely will not warrenty it.
