Default Gear whine?

I've got a 2000 GT, w/manual. Still getting used to the sounds of the car, but I'm detecting gear whine when I drive 4th and 5th gear, now I was used to it in my old mans old 51 pickup but never expected it in a more modern vehicle.
Some thing I should be concerned about? Thanks!

Do you know.if it has aftermarket gears? Also i have noticed alot of noise coming from the shifter area if an aftermarket shifter is installed and they did not put a gasket on the base

No, not from the the front of the driveline, from the rear end. Sounds just like my dad's old truck! LOL (His had granny gears though)
No idea, bought this from another older guy abou two weeks ago. He did tell me he just changed the lube out on the rear and the plugs before we parted ways. Stock is 3.27 right? That's what I found for specs. I mean the car is solid, just a whine when I'm going faster than 50. It's not annoying, it's just there. It just sounds like an old truck! LOL

sounds like he changed the fluid for that reason.. if gears arent adjusted properly it will whine and probably damage the gears. are you sure its stock gears? maybe he "slapped" the stockers in to sell it? my rear end sure dont whine and i got 140k..
