many people will say that mac is not that good for quality, but let me tell you i baught a mac catback (stainless steel) and i love the way the car sounds, and the quality is amazing, there is no rust on it and the whole system still looks good as the day i bought it. its been on the car for about 8 months. the mac systems dont fit that great, i had a hard time getting the system to line up just right so it would not hit anything. But one the other hand i have installed a LM1 system and it fit like a glove. hopefully some one with a flow 40 setup will explain the other half of your delima.

Youve never heard a stang with flowmaster 2 chamber mufflers? I guarentee u have, u might not have noticed. These mufflers were heavenly on the 5.0, but sorta died out in the NEW EDGE era. There are so many different exhaust setups, people really dont weld in mufflers anymore, but if they do, Its usually flows or magnaflow. I know my car has the 40's and i really like them, but I would never reccomend them to anyone. This is like asking whats the difference between chevy and GMC. They are similar good products, but you could always get a ferrari(AKA bassani, Borola)
