Default 2002 4,6l v8 automatic ??

hi, sorry for bad english.

im getting a 2002 mustang 4,6l v8 automatic, and i was wondering if i put the transmission in, lets say 2nd gear would the car change gear if i rev it to high ? or will it cut out(revlimiter). um just thinkin if i would want to take a burnout or drift, would the var just stay in second gear or ?

thanks.

i wouldn't do this in your transmission until you install a shift kit if you haven't yet. this would allow you to shift from 1 to 2 etc.. and help improve shift points and extend transmission life

I think if you were to put it in the '2' spot, past the 'D' for drive, then that would be the highest gear the transmission would shift into. This means if you put it in 2 and try to max out, then the transmission would not shift into a higher gear and as a result would hit the rev limiter.

I used to do it occasionally with my 02, theres actually a program in the 4R70 that if you pull the shifter back from "D" to "2" right as the car is about to shift at redline it will firm up and quicken the shift, my stock v6 used to bark the tires using this technique and had no problems, even though I did blow up the 7.5 twice

also "2" on the selector will lock you in second gear, no first third or overdrive, even from a stop
