Default LED brake light issue..

I have a minor issue with my brake lights, I replaced them with LED lights and now they stay on dim along with the 3rd brake light when the pedal is not depressed. When the brake is applied they light up normally. I do not have resistors in place yet, but I have them on hand (my cruise control stopped working as well), will this fix my issue? The wiring has not been messed with.

IF anyone else has experienced this id love to read about it!

Thanks!

So their just LED bulbs that plug in place? Do they have a built in load on them.. I'm guessing not since that is why you have a resistor.. That's not the best idea to run an LED without putting a false load.. You can short out that circuit pretty quick

No, no built in load on these. They are a 3157 base, plug and play. They didnt have ones with a resistor built in when I ordered mine, looking at their site, they have them now..

Yeah, I would install those load resistors.. They may light up normal but I'm sure that circuit is getting really hot because of the minimal current draw for those bulbs.. Not sure why your cruise control stopped working. I don't think it's part of that loop at all but you can check the fuse and see if it's blown....

Should take care of the problem, hopefully..

I have read that not having the proper load disables the cruise because it thinks a brake light bulb is out...just what ive read....well, Ill see maybe this weekend

Fyi---I decided to go backto the regular bulbs..I didnt really want to cut up my wiring and I dont trust the blue scotchlocks that came with the resistors, LED brakelights just arent that important to me for that. Plus my cruise control works again, so plus 1 for that...I did leave my tails front turn signals, 3rd brake light and reverse lamps led though.

The load resistors are funny. One of the arguments put forth in support of LED lamps is that they use less energy--then you have to add a 6Ω resistor in parallel with each one, which makes them use 27W--same as the incandescent lamp it replaced...
