Default Cost of timing belt and spark plugs replacement

Hello everyone, I am planning to buy my first mustang. I am checking this 2004 GT premium 4.6L manual 5-spd car with 96K miles on it. The owner says it needs timing belt and Spark plugs replacement. Can anyone tell me how much it costs to get this done?

Also any comments on good price for this vehicle? I have test driven this vehicle and it runs great. Gears shift smoothly. The outer body and the top looks great.

Thanks.

There isn't a timing belt, Mustangs use timing chains. And, unless there is a problem, you are fine at 96K. Spark plugs will probably cost you around $200 to get done. And depending on where you live the cost is really what you would be willing to pay for it. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $8,500.

Learn a new skill and do the plugs yourself, then it'll cost about $30 for the plugs. Timing chain is a bit more involved. I'd have that done professionally if I had no experience. Not sure how much it would run, probably not cheap though

Timing chain replacement will be expensive. Around 80-100hr. And everything on the front of the motor will have to be removed to pull the cover. Why does the owner think it needs replacing? If he thinks that needs to be done then ask him to have it done before you buy it.

I suspect the owner doesn't have a clue that there is no timing belt and is basing the comment on what a typical Jap econobox/V6 would need at 100k miles. With the oil kept clean the timing chains in the 2V can easily last 250k+ miles...

$200 to replace the plugs is absurd, $30 for the plugs and 45 minutes time...

Thanks for the replies.

The previous owner got a used car inspection done at some local shop and they gave him a quote saying it will cost $200 for the timing belt and $420 for spark plugs replacement. He says it needs to be serviced at 100K miles as per book.

I showed to a mechanic and he says all I need is a new set of tires. Any good recommendations for below 1000 bucks? Rest all looks great and soon I will become a mustang owner too

You can get just about any good street tire for 1K.. what kind of weather do you usually experience where you live?

Vulcan Tires, Nexen N3000. About $500 shipped, figure $25 each mounted and balanced locally...

$420 for spark plug replacement?!?! I guesstimated with the $200, I've never paid for spark plug replacement. The shop that the inspection was done at needs to be shut down. $400 for a thirty minute job, and quoting you for a timing belt change on a Mustang is inexcusable.
