Well, you guys might have just put a halt to my idea of getting a CAI for my '02 GT convertible. I was considering the MAC, but if the filter IN the fenderwell is so difficult to put in and then service, that doesn't seem like a good option. The comments make it seem like ANY filter IN the fenderwell will be difficult to service.
It sounds like just replacing the normal air filter with a K&N cone filter may be a better option. It obviously is much less expensive ($50 vs. $150+?) It can be serviced relatively easy and it still pulls air from the fenderwell, right?

I have some questions for all those who have installed a CAI. Is there any noticeable difference in power or sound? Do you actually get any benefits from making the change, other than a difference in looks depending on the type of pipes you get (polished aluminum or plastic)?

This is a question for Austin (tcuallstar), if you are there.
You show that you added an Accufab 75mm TB and a C&L Plenum. Please tell me about them. What did you gain by adding them? Was it worth it? Any other comments?
Thanks,
Ken

4ZZS, wait a minute. THere are other kits that are much less of a bitch to install and maintain. I had a thru the fender kit from ebay for a few months, but I realized that cleaning it would suck. So, I bought a new Steeda kit. Not only is it easier to screw with, but the filter is freakin huge and pulls in much more air. It stay underhood, but is shrouded to pull air from the fenderwell.

Guys, why torture yourselves? Go get the Steeda or something that keeps the filter in an easier location.

4zzs-I didn't notice much difference after installing the cai, other than it looked awesome and sounded alittle different. After installing the new plenum and 75 mm tb it was a whole different story. At wot the sound and acceleration were definately noticeable.

chuckV6 - Thanks for the info on the TB and Plenum. May I ask where you got them and what would be a good price for both the pieces? Are they self-installable or do I need to get it done by a shop?
I've put on an SLP Loudmouth II Catback exhaust system and I really like it, but now that I am used to that nice sound, I'd like to go for a little more "growl" and it sounds like working on the intake would do that. Maybe my Christmas wish list will include a CAI, 75mm TB and Plenum.
Thanks again.

4zzs. I got my tb & plenum on ebay brand new from the owner of Pacific Performance. I paid 400.00 but he was selling the package cause he wrecked his car. Retail, a C&L, Accufab, or TrickFlow plenum is around 140.00-160.00 and the Accufab tb is around 250.00. Go with the accufab tb, definately. I think the Trickflow plenum is the cheapest of the 3. Around 140.oo

chuckV6 - What's involved in installing the TB and Plenum? Is it a self-install where you just take the old stuff off and bolt on the new stuff or are there settings/adjustments/calibrations etc. that need attention?
