Default Ignition Coil Screw, Seized Up?

I was trying to change plugs on my S/C 2000 GT yesterday, and I can't seem to get out the small screw that holds down the coil pack. Its only on one cylinder (#7). I'm wondering if that small brass insert that the screw threads into may have broken loose due to a seized up screw? It turns and turns. If it were broken off, i should be able to lift the head of the screw out, but no. It just turns and makes no progress one way or the other. Any ideas? Thanks!

I had the same problem except mine was the #1... At the time one of the COP's was bad so I went ahead and ordered a whole new set. What I did was cut of the tab since I wasn't going to be using that coil any longer.

You have the plastic intake don't you? It is a common problem. The plastic around it gave out and is causing it to free spin. The only way to get it out is to use an extremely flat flat head screw driver underneath the COP and turn the bolt at the same time. You should be able to feel the screw grab and actually come out hopefully. If that doesn't work, cut and replace.

Man I was hoping I was wrong, but I guess thats the case.. Ill try the screwdriver lifting idea, and as a last resort just cut the tab off. Thanks for the input. If anyone is interested, Ill post results and findings.

Use an electric drill with a hex bit on the screw, in reverse of course, and spin the screw rapidly (600 to 800 rpm) while lifting up on the COP--works every time. Then grab the insert with pliers, remove the screw and epoxy (JB-Weld, the slow-set stuff) the insert back into the manifold...

Do NOT over-tighten the screws when re-installing the COPs; the spec is 89 lb-in which frankly I feel it too tight and generally use 40 to 50 lb-in. The COPs will not be tightly held in place by the screws, they will wiggle about a bit even with the screw properly tightened--this is what causes people to over-tighten the screws and mess things up...
