Default e brake help!

OK so I parked my car and put on the ebrake like normal and I came back out like an hour later and put the brake down not noticing anything until I started driving. It seemed like the brake was still on, car was very sluggish and would stop quickly like the e brake had slight resistance.

So I stopped the car and played with the e brake a little bit and noticed that it was now loose and wiggles slightly from side to side. It also doesn't catch until about 2 inches higher than before, but the car stopped acting sluggish when I drive it now like it released. Did my ebrake come loose or something? I might have pulled up on it to hard when I parked it, that's the only thing I can think of that caused it.

It also recently got cold here( about 15 degrees) and my car has been in the garage for a few days so wondering if that had something to do with it

Does anybody know of how I can fix this? I have an 02 manual gt.

Thanks!
