Default Tire Size on 2003 GT

Will 225/55-16 fit on a 2003 Mustang GT? I have 245/45-17 now, but I am looking for winter tires and don't want to spend a fortune on tires and wheels. Thanks.

no. the last number is the rim size. different widths will fit (the first number) within a certain range, but you need to match up the rim size correctly.

try tirerack.com to check out tires for your car.

I assume you're going to put them on 16" rims? Yea I'm pretty sure V6 rims will fit on GT's, I've seen it before.

as long as you have a 16 inch rim and the correct five lug pattern it will work. the tire hight is alittle higher. so if your car is lowered alot it might rub.

My car isn't lowered at all. That size did come up from tiretrack.com, but just wanted to confirm if it was possible. I am going to get 16" wheels, I am taking off the entire 17" wheel, I don't want to ruin those wheels in the winter. I am just trying to save some money, the 17" winter tires are $200-250 more then the 16", not taking into consideration new wheels. I don't care about performance in the winter, I just don't want to crash. Also, I don't have a spot to store the car in the winter and get a junker for the winter, or I would.

If your brakes are still stock, you're fine - the higher profile 16 inch tires will just about adjust for the smaller wheel size. Your speedo shouldn't be out too much.

If you have put aftermarket brakes on the car, you're probably no-go on smaller wheels. The calipers and rotors will probably not clear. This would include cobra brakes, as well as the various baer and brembo units.

As for cheaper tires, I recently purchased tires from www.tiresavings.com for good prices, though they took several weeks to get me my tires.
