Also, the exhaust note. I had a custom 3" dual exhaust with a magnaflow resonator and mufflers on my Thunderbird SC. Same basic engine, just the mustang uses the split port heads and intake. Here is what mine sounded like.

If you're 16 then you don't want a V8 unless you're rich or maybe if insurance is a lot cheaper in your state than mine, get some quotes... I got a V8 when I was 19, even then it's pretty expensive, but not impossible to handle. When I was your age through 18 I was always watching out for good deals on a V6 to have until I could get a V8 just because I love Mustangs so much. If you're like me and just love Mustangs, go for it. Nothing wrong with having the best you can for now and getting a V8 when you can, it never worked out that I was able to get one but I would have done it with the right opportunity. If you're worried about having a fast car and winning races and everything, then hold off and wait for the V8. Also in the meantime, keep a super clean driving record. Your insurance will go down as you get older, but only if you keep your record clean.

Get the V8 - no questions. My insurance when I bought my first Mustang (17 years old) was cheap as hell. I, too, only had liability. And I live in New Jersey, insurance is crazy expensive.

Just saw your reply to this, but thanks man. I loved it. Eventually I plan on my 03 looking basically identical. Only differences I want to end up with in looks are a Mach 1 chin spoiler and grille delete, and I'm gonna go with some black wheels. Unfortunately, here's a slightly more recent picture(the next day to be exact) of that Mustang.

liability only will be a very small difference especially on your moms insurance. A year and a half ago me and my parents were getting insureance quotes about v8's and v6's and, here anyways, a v6 was like $100-$200 cheaper than the 8. so in was able to get the v8 at 16! =D. But yeah if its just liability be extemely careful with the car and you should be able to go with with the GT

Hopefully the GT won't be too much more, make sure you get quotes first though. Don't just go buy a GT and then check the insurance. When I got quotes on a GT when I was your age it was always over $400 a month with my mom on it as the primary driver and liability only. But yeah, just get a quote from everyone you can think of and if you can get the GT then do it, you'll love it.
