Angry P1000 {Smog Check needed}

I put the stock cats and tune back in 5 days and about 200 miles ago, but when I use my SCT to check for codes I get the P1000. The check engine light is not on.

From all the reading of old posts regarding this code am I correct in believing that:

1. When I "cleared all codes" that P1000 comes on as a result of a recent clearing.

2. That possibly I just haven't put enough miles on it for the computer to run a full check.

If I go the the smog shop and there is no check engine light on but when they plug in they get the P1000 code will I have just wasted my money and fail?

Thanks guys.

1. Yes that is what happens when you clear the codes. P1000 is the I/M (Inspection /Maintenance} readiness code. If the I/M tests have not yet completed it will be thrown.

2. Yes, you will need to complete an I/M driving cycle to make that happen.

As to the "smog shop", if your state insists on the I/M tests being complete and all passed (I.E. P1000 is NOT active) then yes you will fail...

Yes to all three questions. CA requires that all the monitoring tests be complete. Otherwise people with real emissions issues would just clear the codes around the corner from the shop and then get it smogged.
