Need some gas tank help
Once again my car decided to **** me off so here I am. Went to the gas station today before I went to work and filled up my tank. Arrived at work, get out of my car, smelled a hint of gasoline and thought nothing of it. About an hour later I go back to my car and there is a huge puddle of gas. I get on the ground an look at my gas tank and there is gas dripping out at a pretty good pace. It's dripping out of where the filler neck connects with the gas tank. How hard is this to fix and will I need any special tools? I'm pretty handy with tools and fixing my car but I have never had to mess with a gas tank. Thanks in advance.

Pretty easy to change. Make it easy on yourself and burn through the gas that is in the tank to make it easier. Not sure if any of the info will say it but make sure you lube up the rubber grommet before you slide the filler neck back in or you could tear it again.

Yep I have replaced mine as well. If you take left turns pretty quick, you will smell it as well since it will kick the gas up to the filler neck area and come out. It isn't that hard to do. Get the gas tank close to empty. Then drop it down, while supporting it with a jack. Remove the neck. Remove the grommet. Replace the grommet. Put the neck back in. And finally put the tank back up. While you are down there, you might want to disconnect the gas tank straps completely and paint the silver and clean up the gas tank cover. Makes for a nice touch.
I am not sure if I listed every step but that's most of it. I would say look at 1-2 hours to do this. Sometimes the neck can be a real pain the ***.

don't sweat it, common mustang problem. I had to change mine as well. just burn through what you have, the less fuel, the less the tank will weigh. undo the bolts around the gas cap, undo the straps, good advice in lubing the new grommet so it'll slide in easier. Not a big deal, just time consuming little petty stuff.
