Angry Lost of Horsepower

Hi guys, I have a 96 convetible GT, I recently changed the X-Pipe on the exhaust system because the catalyc converters on it were clogging up.The older exhaust's X-Pipe had 6 Catalyc Converters on it and he new one I installed only has 2, I have an CAI on the car, Magnaflow Mufflers, not much mods (Not yet anyways). But when I changed out the X-Pipe I've felt as I lost alot of horsepower. Car just isn't pulling as it use to. Less torque, less pick up it just became a sled. Very disappointed because before the changing of the X-Pipe the dam thing ran like a CHAMP. Now I've been doing some research and alot of people tell me I've got to get the computor tuned to run with the new catalyc converter system of just 2. It's been hard to find a person here in North/Central New Jersey neverless who I can go to and talk about my situation. Has anyone had a similiar situations or can tell me how to gain my Horsepower back? Any feedback/suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Why do you think your cats were clogging if the car ran like a champ? Clogged cats should really kill power. Lots of people remove all cats entirely and I've only heard good things about it. Also, paragraph breaks never hurt anyone. haha

I know they were clogging because of lost of power and everytime I got on it, it would smell like I had a 300 lbs fat dude singing out his *** in the car! (Know what I mean?) Also got on the phone with the company that I got my X-Pipe from and theyre telling me that the car is in "Limp Mode" and thats why I lost power and that I will need to get MIL Eliminators for the O2 Sensors in order to get the car out of Limp Mode. Ever since I put the X-Pipe on 2 days later the MIL did come on. So it makes somewhat sense for these adapters. I'm hoping it will solve the problem.

Yes, the car requires the eliminators, a tune wouldn't hurt either. I dunno about where you live, but you can certainly do it yourself, provided you can afford to buy a tuner, Several Places offer free tunes for life/custom tunes with purchase, you tell 'em what you got/have modified they write the tune files. you plug and play. and it should be back to running like a striped-*** ape.

Hmm, I thought those were only necessary when you had no cats at all. I didn't think it would put it into limp mode when you had an oxygen sensor related MIL, seems like I read it would just stay in open loop mode. That shouldn't really hurt power, just fuel economy. Couldn't hurt to get those codes read.

Thank you jt, yes heard abt the pre-loaded tunes and tunes for life. American Muscle actually has a Bama Tuner for $379.00 with all the goodies. Definitely gonna get the MIL Eliminators and go from there.

Lemme also finish the thought I was having.. if you can't afford a tuner/tune.. just installing the O2 eliminators and clearing the MIL code should restore performance. However.. with all these computer controlled motors, if the tuning isn't exact you aren't realizing all that your modification has to offer, particularly when it comes to the intake/exhaust "breathing" of a motor. the difference may be slight in your case, couple hp/ft-lbs. but still I'm a strong advocate of squeeking every bit outta ever dollar invested

Yeah JRP I'm definitely gonna get the codes read to see what its kicking out. She is also drinking fuel like no tomorrow. I also thought MIL Eliminators weren't necessary either unless you have no cats. But from what theyre telling me I should get them for the back O2 Sensors.

No JT youre exactly right. As soon as I can offer a Tuner I'm definitely getting one. Have the MIL Eliminators on order and gonna go get those codes read afterwork. I'll keep you guys posted on how things work out.
