Buying used 99' GT with with one problem
#12
Well I know KBB is high, but its 7,100 in fair condition where I live and I am seeing 99's with over 100k miles going for lowest 6,000 so I feel if I need to put in a bit of work it will still pay off ya know? And as for NADA im getting 9,500 for low retail so I mean what is the worst that can happen if I get it looked at and it just needs a couple hundred bucks worth of work for that back tire. I understand that the body work will be pricey but I'm a strapped for cash college student and don't have the money to buy a gt with such low miles and in great shape so I can deal with the cosmetic stuff until I start making more money in a few months

Alright guys I'm definately more sceptical of it now. I am still going to get it looked over to see if there is any other problems I should be aware of before I make my final decision. Its such a shame because I hate to see a deal like this pass up as 99 50k mile mustang in my area cost around twice what I could get it for with this damage so I am still tempted to just see what I can do with it.

#1 - You seem to have your mind made up already, that you want it. Just so you are aware that is not the premium model which has leather, that one has cloth
#2 - There is NO way it has 55k miles on it, get a carfax to at least see where its been, when and if any maint has been reported, any accidents (that have been reported, etc)
#3 - The damage at the door makes it seem like the frame is bent since the door cought the fender bending the metal, either that or it was hit in the front at one point.
#4 - It def needs a new rim, thats where the "wobble" is coming from
#5 - If the carfax checks out and there is indeed 55k miles on it and your mechanic says it has no frame damage then offer $3300 cash, I would not pay more than that, expect to have at least $400 in body work, most likely more to fix the fender and door, then the cost of a rim and rear end, maint, etc. FWIW I just bought a 03 GT Premium with 111k miles, 2 owner, clean, from a DEALER for $4k out the door, the catch was it was leaking coolant and needed a simple $200 intake manifold. The cheap ones are out there.

There are definitely cheap ones out there.
In the rear that could be more than just a rim. I slid into a curb in my 11 at 5-10mph and ended up with $1500 in damage and i didnt even replace the rim. I would be really skeptical especially since the door/fender area had some damage too.

1. My mind is not made up. I will admit I am hoping there is nothing too bad about it that would stop me from buying it, but I am not dead set on getting it. I just feel as if some people in this thread would look at 3 pictures and give up on it way too easily.
2. How can you determine it does not have 55k on it by looking at a few pictures? I've sat in it and the dash does display 54 something. He says he got it 3 years ago with 22k on it. The title will be able to show if this is true or not.
3. You make a very good point. I feel this is a good area to investigate further.
4. I also agree, however, it could need even more work which is what I will have to investigate.
5. That does sound like a good deal. I feel like 4000 is still a fair deal if it needs less than 1k worth of work.
In response to the multiple problems post. I do agree that it has multiple problems I was just more concerned about the rear wheel and possible damage related to that when I first posted this
