Default Radio is shot...aftermarket radio suggestions?

Hey Guys,

Picked up a 2000 GT...20k on it, pretty mint. I noticed that the radio was acting funky but today it started tripping *****. Whenever i turn it on, it goes right to "tape"...and i have to mess with the am/fm button to get it on radio...then driving today it randomly went to full volume...but the actual volume level displayed didnt change (if that makes sense)...tried turning it off...nothing...none of the buttons worked. so i had to turn my car off in the middle of the hwy while rolling so i didnt blow my ears out. Then once i started it the radio was fine, but displays "tape" all the time, even when changing stations. I guess the radio is just shot bc its 13 yrs old? any suggestion for a good double din after market radio that'll fit a GT? i was nervous i had an electrical problem but my cousin who is a mechanic said the radio prob just died out bc if f*cked and old.

Thanks!!

Check out the 2001-04 dash, a double din will not fit unless you cut the dash up'. I have a 2000 gt aswell. last week i bought a 2002 v6 and swapped the interior. You can go with a single din with a retractable screen.there are a couple nice android powered on eBay.

has anyone ever experienced these problems? If i can i'd like to keep the stock head unit. LIke i said I have to keep pressing the power button for it to turn off and when it does the volume level indicator stays on under the clock. If i keep pressing the power button eventually it'll shut down completely.

While doing this the speakers make a popping sound. When i was driving and the volume was 1/4 raised, it randomly went full blast all by itself. When the radio does go on it only displays "TAPE". Bad fuse? Bad radio? is it a mach 460 or mach 1000? HELP!!!!

Thanks,

Chris

It sure sounds like the head unit.
Do you have amps in the trunk?

I'll give a look today...I just got the car like a month ago and it's not my daily so I really haven't noticed. I'll let you know...that will make it a Mach 1000?
