Default tire sizes and clearance

this is a bit of a stupid question but I was wondering if I can fit 255/40/17s on my stock rims (yes they are 17inch rims) I'm just worried about clearance and rubbing more on the front than the back I ask because I want a good sticky autocross tide and well they just don't make then in the factory 245/45/17

What type of tire are you planning to run for autox?

Lots of guys run 255-40-17 on the 8" rims. However, I would definitely seek out a 245-40-17 tire that will be better supported by an 8" rim. It would feel tighter, more responsive, and more accurate.

I'm assuming that you are running the car in stock class.

255 wide tires shouldn't cause a problem on the front, I believe you can even put 275s up front with a 9" wide rim.

I run 275/40/17's on all 4 corners with no rubbing issues. A 255 will fit fine. A 255 should fit an 8" wheel just fine.
