Default What would be the best and most cost effective way to go ?

Hey guys, I am not the most car savy guy, but i have done some minor work on my car and thats why i want your opinion before i try to do anything further. Basically what happened is i was changing the transmission fluid last week in my 1996 mustang gt and my friend was helping me. Long story short when i started the car he said i had a large exhaust leak. So when we were looking around we think we found the source to be this picture because there was air coming out of it and i can see the gap. So my questions are do you think this could be the cause and if so how hard would it be to fix the problem. I tried to tighten it but it would not close the gap so i believe it is the wrong size or misshaped. The guy before me mentioned he had put new headers on and some exhaust work. Any info helps. I appreciate it guys

Is that the connection between the header and mid pipe? Passenger or driver side?

Is there a ball style joint on the header side? Or is it just flat? Brands of headers have different types of connections for the mid pipe, and sometimes the brands don't work well with each other.

I have a BBK off road x pipe. To get mine to fit right I had to loosen the bolts holding it in, and use my floor jack to put some pressure on it. That raised the mid pipe enought to bolt down right, also allowed for more ground clearance.
