Head gaskets

When I went to buy head gaskets for my 1998 GT 4.6 2 valve engine, I was given the option of the "old style" or "consolidated". Can anyone tell me the difference and if one is better than the other.

Didn't get the part numbers but they were Fel pro gaskets.
