A/c is not working

My ac is not working. The compressor is not engaging I checked the pressure but read 0 psi that I'm assuming is from the compressor not turning on. Is there a way to overide the low pressure switch or anything else to help diagnose what could be the issue

did this happen all of a sudden or has it never worked.

0 psi on suction gauge w/o compressor running means your out of refrigerant. The compressor wont cut in until about 35 psi.

Yeah it's been that way ill try adding some refrigerant and see what happens

If the system is dead flat, as it sounds it is, and has been that way for a long time (several months) then you should evacuate it fully using a vacuum pump. This will also reveal any significant leaks.

HF has a nice 2.5 cfm vacuum pump for $120 (on sale now for $105) that costs less than what most shops will charge to evacuate the system. I have had one for years that still works like a champ--got it back when they were $60...
