Default hard to start

04 GT 15K on it. Engine hot or cold, sometimes takes about 3 seconds to start. Only done this a few times in the past couple of weeks, what should I check?

it could be a bunch of things... Does it crank over slower than it should? Tell us any other things youve noticed.

My 04 GT with 12k miles does this too... not very often, seems to happen more often when it's warm, but not up to full temperature. I just brush it off for now at least, it seems very minor. No TSB on it, if you're super worried about it, stop by a Ford dealership and have them check it out, then tell me what they had to do to fix it ...

Also, after 10-15 seconds at WOT (3rd gear at about 1500 RPM to 4th gear 4500-5000 RPM), when the car is put in to neutral (to coast back down to a more legal speed :P) does your GT stall? I've had it happen to me once, and on a different occasion, I looked down to see the RPM around 400-500, gave it a little gas, it went up to 1200 RPM, then fell back to the normal 800 RPM idle... this is coasting at about 70-80 MPH.

Thats happened to me too. It may sound funny because its FI, but I pushed on the gas a little bit and it fired right up. Another time I put the key into acc, let it sit for 10 sec, cranked it over and it started. Weird if you ask me. This is something that doesnt happen often.

i have some good news & some bad news. good news: i'm 99% sure i know what your problem is. bad news: your fuel pump. mine started doing that at 59,000 miles. a ford tech. told me there is a check valve in the fuel pump that sticks & doesn't allow constant fuel pressure to stay in the fuel lines. as a "learn to live with until you fix it", he said to cycle the key 3 or 4 times then start. in other words turn key to on position,(you'll hear the pump engage) turn back to off. do this 3 times, or so, then start. this is building pressure in the lines. anyway, works for me. around here, ford wants 250.00 for a new pump. autozone wants 179.00. sucks with the pump being in the tank. oh well. anyway, try that & see what happens. good luck.

And my fuel pump? First time this happened to me was at 9.5k miles. You're telling me it starts acting up at 9500 miles but still works fine at 59000 miles? I have to dismiss what you said because this isn't a consistant thing for me. It's exactly like the other two describe, one in every 20-50 starts it will take longer to get going, and start strangely when it does... It still cranks fine.

I'll just call it a mustang anomaly for now.

my 04 GT did this before and after i got my supercharger. when it does start, it sounds like it struggles to. only after it's been sitting for awhile and the engine is cool. i have a new fuel pump too since i got my vortech. still does it. also new injectors.
