If you have a limited slip, yes you need the additive. Otherwise the clutches will engage during normal turns causing the rear axle to attempt to drive straight ahead.

Most synthetic gear oils are sufficiently "slippery" that f/m additive is not needed--as Frostbite said, "read the label". Too much friction modifier, or f/m added to synthetic oil, will make the LSD clutches slip too much and not lock up as they should...
