Default Ac system has been removed

So I just purchased a new to me 1996 mustang GT but the previous onwer decided to remove the AC compressor and the Lines. They did leave the condenser, accumulator and evaporator. I was wanting to know if there is a drawing that shows what lines are needed to reinstall the AC system. My understanding was that the previous owner removed the AC for more power and not because the system had failed.

Thanks

I don't have the diagram you need, but they should be available at any generic auto parts store or the Ford dealer. I'm fairly sure the pieces are more or less the same from 1996-2004, so they should be widely available. Another option is just pull everything out of a salvage car.

Removing a system from a salvage car is my plan now. Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't take A/C lines out of the junkyard. The seals could very well be dried out and cracked because the oil has not been circulating. They recover the refrigerant before putting the cars out. For as much of a headache as they can be I would replace the lines with brand new ones.

Nothing wrong with pulling one out of a junkyard but a used system, even with new seals, could have internal contamination that will destroy the system in a short period of time and waste all of your work and previous investment.

There are plenty of companies that sell inexpensive A/C system parts. r o c k a u t o

Condensor (by radiator) and evaporator (under dash) may be ok (were they capped off or left open to the air?). If they were left open, replace them.

Here's a list of what you'll need.

- Compressor w/clutch $175
- Orifice tube/expansion valve $10
- Low pressure line/high pressure line $no idea
- Accumulator/drier $50 (Always replace after system has been opened - never buy a used one, if you know anything about A/C you will know why). This is a one-time use part.
- Condensor/Evaporator $no idea
- Low pressure in-line filter $20 (always install when repairing a system keeps crap in the system from jacking up the new compressor or clogging the orifice tube).

I had planned on getting the lines I need and compressor from the salvage yard and replace all of the o rings with new ones and get a new drier. We will see what happens and I will keep you posted.

Default hope you got a deal on the car

Hope all works out. I have taken JY parts and replaced an AC that worked for over a year. Some of the JY will tell you how long the car has been in the lot.

Worked for over a year before you got rid of the car or over a year before it went out?
